I think I was perfectly polite. It is possible to be so without the use of silly words like 'please'. You see, when I say 'please', it rather sounds as though I'm begging--or at the very least imploring--and you should know very well that I don't do that.
If you're going to use honoraries, at least get them right. That would be 'Professor'. But please, dear. Call me Jim.
