London Fog (VaticanCameos221B, Sherlock Pheonix) Empty London Fog (VaticanCameos221B, Sherlock Pheonix)

    Bored.

The exact word that Sherlock quite frequently murmured (or shouted, cried, groaned, or sometimes even sang) was the one word that John’s mind sighed. The former soldier took his lingering hands away from the keyboard and slumped down in the chair, almost feeling defeated.

The day itself was boring as well. London was typically known for being grey, dreary, and foggy, and it had been rather stormy that week with quite a downpour of rain that particular day, with rumbling thunder and flashes of lightening. It had been quiet that day, as no one had gone outside to brave the storm until that hour, but even the most resistant of individuals have to go home at five, six, or seven o’clock, which explained the light hustle and bustle down in the streets. Of course, however, everyone would be home within 30 minutes of leaving their offices and workspaces, and London would be peaceful again.

Of course, London being peaceful meant that there had been no crime or case for Sherlock to solve. It had seemed that when the bad weather drove everyone back into their homes, all of the criminals and monsters had slithered back into their dwellings, left to lurk against the cold stone walls of their mind and anticipate for the sunny rays of opportunity to creep through their cave openings.

John signed again and gingerly closed his laptop. It seemed that Sherlock had run off to his own dwellings too, wherever those were. They certainly weren’t in his room today, or yesterday, for that matter. Sherlock had left the previous morning and he’d not returned since, as found by Mrs. Hudson’s fruitless check-up, which would have been followed by rose tea and biscuits, but instead she fretted about Sherlock’s and forgot all about the tea, leaving it to run cold.

Sherlock’s moment of absence was a change of pace for John, as he hadn’t had to run any demeaning errand like grocery shopping, fetching him whatever mundane (or unorthodox object) he needed, and he certainly hadn’t been called to reach into Sherlock’s coat either (which would have left John to mumble on about how lazy and deplorable Sherlock was as he burned in annoyance, so absence of anything ruining his otherwise content demeanor).

John sighed and picked up his phone so he could navigate through his messages. Nothing from Sherlock, it had seemed. Nothing at all. There was no demand for his presence left in his phone, nor was there a demand of a favor or a troubling task.

    Sherlock had been otherwise occupied.
He had been engrossed in an experiment that ended up with him being covered in blood.

    A predictable consequence.
One Sherlock hadn't really thought about.
Which caused him to sulk on his way back to Baker Street.
He had ruined another of his favorite shirts, and even though no one could accuse Sherlock Holmes to be vain, he still found it extremely bothering to look for the right clothes.
Because he could not dress in anything that weren't the right clothes.

He had been so excited about the chemical reaction, the discovery of the compound, that he had not considered the consequences. Of course if he had to relate that to John, he would say he had simply not cared about the consequences.
He couldn't possibly accept to lose points in front of John.
The doctor didn't need to know the details.

He'd wonder why it mattered at all, but he had come to terms to his own arrogance quite a long time before that day.
The need to relate things to John on the other hand was rather more extravagant, especially for a character like that of Sherlock.
He gave it little thought though, because it did no harm after all.

He looked at the steps as he moved into his apartment, he was only now realizing he had been away for quite a while, but John had not seen fit to check on him.
    How... disappointing.
Especially considering how much time they spent together these days.

Mud. Two days old. Mrs Hudson. Biscuits.
No, John had not left the flat in the last day and a half, and he hadn't received any visit.

"It must be so nice to have a brain like yours, John, relax instead of boredom," he exclaimed as he burst inside, his tone flat as if he was discussing the weather, even though he was completely wet and covered in pig blood.

John had just placed a kettle on the stove for tea the moment had Sherlock walked in, and the soldier was startled enough by Sherlock's presence that he almost knocked the kettle and his tea cup over.

"Jesu-!" John stopped himself from shouting, drawing in a deep breath. He rolled his eyes and walked out of the kitchen and into the living room, stopping the moment he saw Sherlock's state of disarray. The doctor frowned and his eye brows furrowed.

"What... What on earth were you doing?" John asked, rubbing his temple with his thumb as he stared at John. "And please... Please tell me that Mrs. Hudson didn't see you like that. She'd have a fit."

The kettle started to whistle, and John sighed again, taking his eyes away from Sherlock to go tend to the tea. He turned off the heat of the stove and grabbed another mug for Sherlock and placed it next to his own, minding to grab two sugars for Sherlock's tea.

Sherlock couldn't help the smirk that graced his lips when John jumped, he did pride himself to be stealthy and it was nice to have proof of it at times. It gave him satisfaction to scare John in particular, even though he knew it was rather useless.

He rolled his eyes at John's question. "My dear John, you could easily deduce what happened to me," he tapped his lips in thought. "Can't you?" he asked, moving to the kitchen and noticing with pleasure that the doctor was preparing tea for him even though he didn't ask.
    Priceless.

John snorted and poured tea into his own mug.

"No, Sherlock, because I don't use my massive intellect to read others."

John placed Sherlock's tea onto the table and pushed to him a little.

"But I would assume that it was an important experiment or something of the like."

Sherlock looked at him amused. "And what do you usually use it for?" he teased him, taking the mug with an exhausted sigh.

"Yes, exactly, it was an extremely interesting experiment... so interesting I completely lost track of time... it happens, you know, when you use your head too much," he joked, before he started sipping on his tea.
    Ah, so good.
    John's tea.

"I noticed you have been holed up here these few days, no visitors, have you been sick?" he asked curiously, his voice betraying his lack of interest though. He knew by the room arrangement that nothing of importance had happened in it.

John rolled his eyes. "... I was being sarcastic, Sherlock." He took a long sip of his own tea, then stopped, took another small sip, and then went back into the kitchen to put some milk in it.

"I haven't been sick." John replied, mumbling to himself how Sherlock could have easily deduced that out of him, "It's been my vacation from the surgery for the past few days, if you can recall. I have about another full week off before I have to go to work."

Sherlock grimaced at the mention of holidays, he could not stand those, so bloody boring. He liked his job, and he wished he was even busier than how he usually was.
Experiments were the only thing that kept him sane these days.

"And what do you intend to do in your week off?" he asked, taking his mug and moving to his favorite spot, opening his laptop and turning it on.
It was only when he put the mug on the table that he realized he was still covered in blood.
Mm, maybe a shower was in order.
